Combating Eye Infections

In the past we have had many eye infections with our children. They seemed to pick them up everywhere, the grocery store, school, church, even the park. I have funny memories of my husband holding down our children’s arms and holding them still, while I would pry their eyes open…..all these struggles were just so we could get the eye drop prescription into their eyes. It was a chaotic mess at times! Our kids hated it, we hated it….it wasn’t any fun at all to have to deal with eye issues!

Since we have started using doTERRA we have had very few eye infections, but they have occasionally happened. This past week my 2 year old woke up and he was rubbing two red, goopy eyes. Instead of going to the doctor and getting a prescription (which is what we used to always do—and it required a lot of energy and work on our part, as shared in the previous paragraph). I simply went into my kitchen, opened up a bottle of Lavender essential oil and a bottle of Melaleuca essential oil and put one drop of each in the palm of my hand—I also added a few drops of fractionated coconut oil.

I walked up to my sweet two year old, and swiped the oils around the bone of his eye. (Note: I did not put the oils in his eyes…..but around the bone of his eye) It was so simple and easy—I didn’t even have to leave my home. It made for a sweet moment as he looked up at me and said, “thank you mommy.” I applied the oils throughout the day several times—each time he would thank me for applying the oils. Even my two year old knows how quickly and powerful the oils are. He was fine by the next day; there was no sign of eye infection. I continued to apply the oils throughout the second day just to make sure it was gone.

This was a much more pleasant experience that what we have previously had with eye infections. It made it a sweet experience instead of a miserable one.
I love that these powerful essential oils can not only help our bodies to heal very quickly, but they also create opportunities for bonding moments with those we care for.

Other ways we have found to help with eye infections: Put a few drops of Lavender or Melaleuca and coconut oil on a warm wash cloth and place over closed eye. Apply to reflex points on feet.

Note: Please keep the oils away from the eyes. If you do get essential oils in the eye, do not rinse with water. Wash your hands really well, grab a carrier oil (like coconut oil, or sweet almond oil, or even olive oil), rub it around the eye. It sounds crazy, but it works fast, and takes away the burn.

Celebration of the New Taiwan Office!

On Saturday, July 23rd 2011, I was able to join dōTERRA executives and staff and over 300 attendees to celebrate the grand opening of the new doTERRA Taiwan office. David Stirling and Greg Cook were present with John Chou, President of Greater China, and dōTERRA employees Kathy Teng, and Shawna Wang. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees were invited to explore the product displays and offices. IPCs were thrilled to have a professional new office where they could bring their associates and share the dōTERRA story. It was wonderful to be able to finally meet some of our great leaders from Taiwan! I can’t wait to go back again!

Essential Oils are Empowering!

Not long ago my baby fractured his skull so we were at the hospital doing testing. While there he caught a horrible illness called Hand Foot Mouth Disease. It is a very painful illness. You get mouth ulcers down your throat, on your tongue, and all over your mouth. It is very painful and it hurts so badly to swallow, let alone eat or drink. You also get blisters all over your hands and feet—so it hurt him to walk.

I thought I knew what he had, but I called my doctor just to be sure. I told them the symptoms and they told me I was correct in my guess. But they had bad news for me, it was a viral infection and they told me there was nothing I could do. It would most likely last up to 3 weeks, and my biggest concern would be that my baby would end up in the hospital due to dehydration—since it is so painful to drink. I said okay, and I hung up.

In the past, I probably would have gotten off the phone and cried. My poor, poor baby—not only was his head in bad shape, but he had this painful virus! I felt so bad for my little boy. In the past I would have painfully struggled through those 3 horrible weeks—probably with lots of Motrin and lots of popsicles.

But I knew I had something I could do, I didn’t just have to wait around—I knew there were other options. I had doTERRA essential oils! I started putting Melaleuca essential oil on my finger and putting it in his mouth several times throughout the day. I also put it on his hands and feet, and I put On Guard on his feet for extra immune system support.
By the next day, my baby could suck his thumb again. He could drink a bottle. His mouth ulcers and blisters all cleared up within the next few days.

I was so, so, so grateful I had these wonderful essential oils that are so powerful. I was told that there was nothing I could do in my situation, I could have been helpless and hopeless…..but I knew there was something I could do!
I love how I feel so empowered as a mother, as a sister, daughter, as a neighbor and friend. It gave me hope, when before there was none. I love that I have the choice to take control of my family’s health. What a blessing it has been. This is why I am here, that is why I want everyone to know about the benefits of doterra. I love being empowered, and I want you to be empowered too!

My Favorite Slim and Sassy Trim Shake Recipes!

I will be honest, I have never been a fan of protein shakes. Usually they leave an awful after taste in my mouth and I am basically gagging to get them down. I almost expected the same thing to happen with these. I was really surprised how much I LOVE THESE SHAKES!!!! I drink one of these every day for breakfast! They are wonderful!
The Slim and Sassy Trim Shakes can help control cortisol levels which triggers accumulation of fat around stomach, hips, and thighs. They also can help reduce stress-induced appetite, and carbohydrate cravings. They work as a meal replacement! My favorite shake lately is the Chocolate Mango Shake, it sounds weird I know! I usually don't like chocolate with fruit, but I LOVE this one!!! Here are a few of my favorite recipes:

Tropical Breeze TrimShake
• 1 to 2 scoops of Vanilla Slim & Sassy® TrimShake™
• 1 to 2 cups of nonfat or other milk
• 2 strawberries, 2 chunks of fresh pineapple, 1 peach
• 2 drops of Wild Orange essential oil
• 4 to 6 ice cubes

Mix in blender on medium for 1 minute or until smooth. Pour into tall glass
and enjoy!

Orange Creamsicle TrimShake
Simply add a few drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil to your Vanilla TrimShake™.

Lemon Custard Trim Shake
Simply add a few drops Lemon Essential Oil to your Vanilla TrimShake

Berry Spinach Shake
8 oz. Almond Milk
2 scoops doTERRA Vanilla Trim Shake
8 oz Ice
½-1 c. Strawberries/ raspberries/ blueberries
Handful of Spinach (washed)
Pour all ingredients in blender and serve. (2 servings)

Chocolate Banana TrimShake
• 1 to 2 scoops of chocolate Slim & Sassy® TrimShake™
• 1 to 2 cups of nonfat or other milk
• 4 to 6 ice cubes
• 1 banana
Mix in blender on medium for 1 minute or until smooth. Pour into tall glass
and enjoy!

Chocolate Peppermint Shake
8 oz Almond Milk
1-2 drops of peppermint oil
8 oz ice
Pour all ingredients in blender and serve (2 servings)

Chocolate Mango Trim Shake
8 oz. Almond Milk
2 scoops doTERRA Chocolate Trim Shake
8 oz Ice
1 Mango peeled and sliced
Pour all ingredients in blender and serve. (2 servings)

Energy Protein Bar with doTerra Trim Shake
2 Cups Organic Peanut Butter
2 1/2 Cups doTerra Chocolate Trim Shake
1 3/4 Cup Agave
3 1/2 to 4 Cups Rolled Oats
Mix peanut butter and agave. Heat in microwave 60 to 90 seconds. Add Trim Shake powder and oats. Mix. Spread in 9 x 13 pan. Refrigerate 1 hour. Cut and serve like a no bake cookie.

Feeling Anxious?

Between 18-20% off all adults have some sort of anxiety disorder each year. It has been estimated that two-thirds of all visits to physicians are for anxiety and stress-related problems. Recent evidence indicates that the physical changes associated with anxiety and stress may contribute to the leading causes of death - heart disease and cancer.

We have had many people successfully get of their anxiety meds with these essential oils. Some people use a single oil or a mixture of several oils or rotate the oils they use. Find what works best for you!

You can use any of the following oils to help with Anxiety and Stress:

2-5 drops of Lavender, Serenity, Balance, Citrus Bliss, Wild Orange or Ylang Ylang (my personal favorite is Balance)

--Rub on back of neck and shoulders, or over heart, or on wrists or you can put a few drops in your hand and then cup hand over mouth and breathe in oils.

--You can also add a few drops to a warm bath.

--Add a few drops to a diffuser

--Add a few drops in a pot of boiling water on the stove

Other symptoms associated with Anxiety:

For rapid breathing---heart pains etc due to anxiety, rub 2-5 drops of serenity, balance, lavender or ylang ylang over heart.

For headaches: Use 2-5 drops of peppermint or lavender (or both) and rub on temples, forehead and back of neck (some people love balance)

For Nausea or upset stomach rub a few drops of peppermint on tummy, behind ears or add 1 drop to a glass of water and sip.

Repairing Damaged Muscles with doTERRA Essential Oils

Have you sprained, strained, damaged or torn a muscle, ligament or tendon recently? It can be very painful and the healing process is quite tedious.

Here are a few tips on speeding up the process for Muscle, Tendon, Cartilage and Tissue Healing and repair with essential oils.

There are quite a few options, we are just naming a few—so if you feel like you need a few more options let us know.

Deep Blue: helps with pain, inflammation and healing tissues

Lemongrass: is for healing ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, it helps with regenerating connective tissue, circulation, repairing ligaments, tissue regeneration, muscles and bones

Marjoram: is for muscles, spasms, rheumatism, sprains, stiff joints, aches, neuralgia, pain, tension—good for muscles and bones

AromaTouch: is great for pain, inflammation, spasms, circulation and healing.

PastTense: Anti-inflammatory, helps relieve muscle and bone pain, anti-spasmodic, circulatory stimulant, alleviates aches, pains and stiffness, increases blood flow –muscles and bones

Wintergreen: helps with inflammation, rheumatism, muscular pain, craps, arthritis, tendonitis, and hypertension. It is know for its ability to alleviate bone pain. (it has a cortisone like action due to the high content of methyl salicylate)

How to Apply: Rub 3-5 drops on effected area, you can do one single oil or combine multiple oils—or even all if you want to.
You can add in a carrier oil if you would like to help spread the oil over a larger space.

***You can also use a hot/ cool moist towel to help drive the oils in, or a heat pack—or cold pack—depending on your injury.

Helping Combat RSV and other Respiratory Issues

Most of us probably know someone who has RSV right now. I have been getting multiple calls a week about people needing help with babies with RSV who are in the hospital. It is a really scary time for little babies. In fact, I was at the hospital over the weekend helping someone out with the oils and I kept seeing baby after baby being brought in, it made me so sad. RSV can be very dangerous for little ones. Here are a few things we have found to help. In fact, we have been able to help quite a few babies come home much earlier from the hospital than expected with doTERRA’s essential oils. (this has also been used to help children with other respiratory issues)

There are lots of things you can do for children with RSV, here is what I have found most helpful.
#1 Apply 1 drop On Guard on the bottom of babies feet 2-3 times a day to fight off viral infection.
Or you could also try 1 drop of any of the following oils instead: Melissa, Thyme, Oregano

#2 Apply 1-2 drops Lemon down babies spine, chest and on bottom of feet (dilute if needed)—this is for drying up the mucus and congestion. Use 2-3 times a day or more as needed.

#3 Apply 1-2 drops frankincense on chest and upper back for inflammation in lungs and building up immune system. Use 2-3 times a day or more as needed

#4 Apply 1-2 drops Breathe Blend (add 1-2 drops of a carrier oil---like coconut oil)on babies chest, upper back and diffuse it in their room to help breathe easier (any diffuser will work, but for this situation I highly recommend a diffuser that runs all night long). You can also cup your hands over baby’s mouth with the oil on it like you would a nebulizer to help them breathe better. Use 2-3 times a day, or more as needed.
Or you could use any of these oils in the same ways:
Peppermint oil increases our oxygen uptake, so you might want to try just 1-2 drops peppermint instead (make sure to dilute)….or adding some with the breathe.
You can also use 1-2 drops Eucalyptus or marjoram instead (make sure to dilute)……

Use every time they lay down for bed, and throughout the day as needed. It is not like medication where you have to wait every 4-6 hours. As long as you are using just a few drops at a time, you can use it as often as every 30 min to an hour (use your best judgement). Most parents have found that using it around 3 times a day has worked very well, I would recommend using it at least 2-3 times a day.

There are a variety of choices you can use; everybody has different body chemistry, so figure out what works best your child.

Holiday Recipes with Essential Oils

Here are some fun ways to cook with doTERRA essential oils during the Holidays. Now....I am not saying these are healthy....because they aren't. But they sure taste good!

Festive Black Bean Salsa

1 (15oz) can Black Beans drained
1 (15.25 oz) can Corn
3 large Roma Tomatoes diced
1 Medium Avocado peeled and diced
2 jalapeños seeded and diced
½ c. red onion chopped
½ c. cilantro chopped
3 drops Lime Essential Oil
1 (.6 oz) packet of Dry Italian salad dressing mix

Mix together and chill. Serve with tortilla chips.

Hot Fudge Peppermint Sauce

2 tablespoons margarine, melted
1/3 cup cocoa
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3-6 drops peppermint oil

In a microwave proof bowl, combine margarine, water and cocoa. With wire whisk, blend in condensed milk. Microwave on high 1 minute then whisk to blend. Microwave 1 1/2 minutes more on high. Add vanilla and peppermint and blend with whisk completely. Serve over your favorite ice cream, can sprinkle with peppermint candy canes.
Store in 1 pint canning jar, cool and refrigerate. Can be re-warmed in jar (lid removed) in microwave--add a bit of water if it thickens too much.

Yummy Fruit Dip

8oz pkg. cream cheese softened
1 8oz. tub whipped topping (for a change of flavor get strawberry cool whip)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
3-6 drops of any of the following oils (or you can mix and match)—lemon, wild orange (my favorite), Lime, or Grapefruit.
Food coloring

Mix together and chill. Dip your favorite fruits in this!

Orange or Peppermint Fudge

2 c. sugar
2/3 c. evaporated milk
¼ c. butter
¾ c. chocolate chips
1 c. marshmallows
1 tsp. vanilla
6-8 drops peppermint oil or Orange Oil

In a saucepan combine sugar, milk and butter at medium heat. Boil, stirring constantly for 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, pour into buttered pan. Cut when cool

Citrus Punch

5 QT water
3 C. sugar
1 TB. citric acid ( buy this at the pharmacy counter)
3-5 drops lemon essential oil
3 drops orange essential oil
orange and lemon slices

Mix together and chill! Make sure to mix before serving—it is best to serve this in glass pitchers.

Chocolate Mint or Chocolate Orange Brownie Frosting

½ cube butter softened

3 c powdered sugar
3 Tbsp milk

3 Tbsp cocoa
3-6 drops peppermint oil (To Taste)
Or
3-6 drops Orange Oil (To Taste)

Mix together until well blended. Frost over your favorite cooled brownie recipe.

Relax during the Holidays with Bath Salts! Who doesn't need to relax during the holidays! This is a great gift to give, it is fairly inexpensive--just add it to a cute cellophane bag and make sure to add your favorite scent to it!

Bath Salt Recipe

2 Cups Baking Soda

1 Cup Sea Salt

3 Cups Epsom Salt(All above ingredients can be found at your local grocery store)

DoTerra Essential Oils-- I like Serenity, Lavender, Wild Orange, Citrus Bliss, Balance and Elevation

In a large mixing bowl add all of the above ingredients with the exception of the essential oil(s). Mix with your hand or a large spoon. After all of the ingredients are well mixed begin to add essential oils until the desired scent is achieved. The best way to determine if enough oils have been added is simply by using your own judgment. Bath salts should be strongly scented so fewer salts will be required for each bath, which will enable them to last longer. (Usually 12 drops of a high quality essential oil would be enough to scent the entire recipe above.)

Pine Cones (Can buy at most craft stores-- or find them outside)

Gallon size Ziplock Bag

Your Favorite Holiday Essential Oil

If you collected the pine cones from outside, you will need to clean them first. Here is what you

do: Wash them in the sink, then place on a foil-covered cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour at 200F, keeping an eye on the oven for safety.

Method #1 Add a 5-10 drops of cinnamon, Clove, Cassia, Wild Orange, White Fir or the Holiday Joy blend essential oils into a spray bottle with a little water and spray cones until they are damp. Place scented pine cones in a plastic bag and seal for 24 hours. Then take out and let dry completely.

Method #2 Place pine cones in a sealable plastic bag, add several drops of cinnamon, Clove, Cassia, Wild Orange, White Fir or the Holiday Joy blend essential oils, close bag a and shake several times to distribute. Keep sealed for 2 -7 days for more fragrant cones.

Put in Gift Bags for gifts, or for around the house place on Wreaths, or in baskets or bowls.

A few other ideas: You can also get an unscented lotion and add your favorite oil to it. Or make your own Lip Balm--this is a fun gift for teenagers to be able to give to each other as well!

How Do You Feel Today?

Approximately 20.9 million American adults in a given year, have a mood disorder. This is also rising very quickly in children and teens as well. In fact pre-schoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants. At least four percent of preschoolers are clinically depressed.

Many of us are feeling stuck in a rut with how we feel. It might be just for a short time--or for an extended period of time. Most of us will experience this, or know someone who will. Depression is usually marked by feelings of feelings of sadness, energy loss, feelings of worthlessness, irritability, sudden weight loss or gain, trouble sleeping or loss of interest in activities normally enjoyed.

Why do I feel this way?
This can be due to many factors. Things such as a chemical imbalance, side effects of medicines, genetics, illness, death, the economy, finances or abuse. However, even good events such as starting a new job, graduating, having a child, getting married or anything that involves a big life change can lead to depression as well. Recently I have talked with several people that struggle with seasonal depression also, which usually comes with the changing of the weather. No matter what the reason, it can sometimes be hard to get out of the rut we feel stuck in.

About 11 years ago, I went through a time when I didn't want to get up in the morning. I couldn't stay awake during school, at work, or at home--no matter how hard I tried. The second I would get home, I would get into bed and go straight to sleep. I didn't want to talk to anyone or see anyone. I was in school then, and I went from being a 4.0 GPA student to a 2.1 GPA student in just a short time .
I didn't care about anything but sleep. It was a really strange experience for me. I didn't know why I was acting or feeling this way, but I was. I felt like I was in the bottom of a deep hole and I didn't know how to get out. It was frustrating and scary. This is something that is common in our society, I hear stories like mine all the time.

What Essential Oils work well for Depression?
I am frequently asked while teaching, "what essential oils can help make an impact on our mood and how we feel?" People love using the oils because they don't have the harmful side effects that many anti-depressants have.
Here are a few oils that might help. You can use one by itself--or you can use multiple oils together. Everybody has a different body chemistry and we all need something different--so don't be afraid to figure out what oils work best for you!

These oils are uplifting and invigorating to the mind and body.
Citrus Bliss (invigorating blend), Balance (grounding blend-my personal favorite), Elevation ( Joyful Blend), Lemon , Frankincense, Bergamot, Wild Orange

These oils are uplifting to the mind and body, but are also calming and help with sleep as well.

Combating Leg Cramps

Leg cramps or "Charlie Horses" can be quite the nuisance--and usually come at the most inconvenient times. They can be very painful and can last anywhere from a few seconds to several hours for people.

Leg cramps can be caused from strenuous exercise, hormonal imbalances, dehydration, low levels of potassium or calcium in the blood, from side effects of medication, and are common complaints during pregnancy or for the elderly.

During one of my pregnancies I personally was hit with horrible leg cramps. There were several times I couldn't even speak or move it was so painful. I wish I would have had a remedy to use that would have made life a little easier. Now I know what I can do for the future leg cramps.

Mary Jenkins, from California sent this to me. "I Woke up this morning to the excruciating pain of a charlie horse. So while screaming from pain I hopped over to my dresser, got out lemongrass and peppermint and rubbed it on my leg. Guess what? It worked!"

It really is so great to have something that can help combat these painful episodes. A few things that may help are massaging a few drops of Lemongrass and peppermint together on area that is cramping. If it is a large area, you might want to add a little fractionated coconut oil with it. Other oils that have been found to be affective are marjoram, and deep blue.

Simple Sore Throat Solutions!

Are you struggling with a sore throat? Here are a few simple solutions!

In 8oz hot water, add 2 Tbsp. Honey and 2-3 drops lemon essential oil and drink

In 1/4 c. water, add 2-3 drops melaleuca or On Guard essential oil and gargle (can swallow or spit out-- have fractionated coconut oil handy in case it gets on lips)

Suck on an On Guard Throat Drop--carry them with you through out the day

In 8oz. water add 1 drop peppermint oil. Drink throughout the day.

Do You Need More Sleep?

Do you need more sleep? This is a problem growing in America. Insomnia can be triggered by stress, medications, drug or alcohol use or anxiety and depression.

In the 2009 Sleep in America Poll about 27 percent of people said that the stress of the economy is keeping them awake. Studies show that at any time roughly 30 percent of adults have symptoms of insomnia.

Lavender and Serenity are two great oils that can help with more restful sleep. Diffuse Lavender or Serenity in your room or spray them on your pillow before going to sleep. Rub 2-3 drops on the bottom of your feet and back of neck, or put 2-3 drops in a warm bath.

Essential Oils to use with Weight Loss

I meant to post this the first week in January since most of us set a New Years goal to improve our health some way. One of my goals is to loose those few extra pounds that I have lingering around from having my baby 6 months ago.

I will admit, I have been doing pretty good. I have made it to the gym about 5 days a week :). Plus I have been drinking water with essential oils in it. The oils can help with many different things. They help with endurance and energy, which is great during workouts, it is an appetite suppressant, it cleanses your body, helps with your GI tract, strengthens immune system, and does many more beneficial things for your body. I personally think it helps me to not crave sugar as often.

I recieved this email this morning, she sent it myself and a few others. I thought I would post it. It makes me so happy when I know I am helping others.
Here it is...

OK- so swine flu is rampant at my boy's school. It started in Micah's kindergarten class, and spread quickly. Nicole saved us by introducing us to the oils and we've been rubbing OnGuard, Oregano and Frankincense on their feet every night and morning.

When I was out of OnGuard last week, Micah and Alma got sick with a cold- our really bad asthma patients! I used OREGANO and MELALEUCA and FRANKINCENSE on their feet, and BREATHE blend on their chest. Both recovered quickly, and COMPLETELY. No cold settling in their chests, and nights of coughing and lack of sleep, and mostly...oxygen. That was really cool! Alma and Micah were literally BOUNCING around the house! This has never happened before in either of their lives.

The really BIG thing, though- Day before yesterday, Ammon went to bed telling me his head felt really weird. Yesterday morning he wouldn't eat breakfast at all. He didn't have a fever or anything, but he was "off". With Ammon's enthusiasm for telling "stories/lies" it was hard to determine if something was really wrong or not. I sent him to school. I had a meeting with the school director around lunch time, and Ammon's teacher came in. I learned that she had had the swine flu and that her husband had come down with it just yesterday (as have other kids in the class). She said Ammon seemed OK. He came home and seemed sort of OK, but didn't eat his favorite dinner, either. About 1/2 hour after dinner he was watching TV and got up holding his head saying, "I'm NOT OK!" Ammon rarely complains, and I can't remember the last time he had a fever. I took his temp and it was about 102. He couldn't get in bed fast enough, and I kept having to wake him up to take pills. Nicole gave me some of the empty pill capsules, and I gave him the formula for swine flu, suggested by doTerra. (AND I had been doing the OnGuard, Oregano and Frankincense on his feet for days before.) I had the diffuser in his room with OnGuard all night.

This morning, Ammon woke up with a temp. of 94.6. Holy cow! He asked for breakfast.

"What do I do if I get the flu?"

I have people ask me all the time, "What do I do if I or someone in my family gets the flu?" More in particular about the swine flu.

There are lots of different things you can do to help get rid of the flu and help alleviate the symptoms. I will give you a few examples of things we have done. There are many more things you can do, as well as other oils. These are just the oils that my family has found we like best in each situation.
Just remember, every ones body chemistry is different. So what works best for us, might be something completely different than what works for you!

At first sign of flu like symptoms, I would reccomend taking an empty capsule filled with3- 4 drops On Guard, 3-4 drops Oregano, 3-4 drops Lemon--you can also add in a little Frankincense,Thyme or Basil if you would like.

This works as a natural antibiotic--the great thing is, no harmful constituents and no side effects!For myself, I take it twice a day--if I was really sick, I would probably take it three times a day.For young children rub 1 drop of each on the bottom of their feet with a carrier oil, you can apply a few times through out the day.

To prevent the flu from spreading to other family members apply 1-2 drops On Guard to bottom of feet morning and night. Also diffuse On Guard in home.

For Sore Throat: Use On Guard Throat drops. Also, drink lemon and peppermint in your water. You can gargle with 1/4 c. water 2 drops lemon and 1 drop Oregano (make sure you have fracitionated coconut oil close by because it will burn your lips a little when you spit it out). In a Tablespoon Honey or Agave Nectar add 2 drops lemon, 1 drop peppermint (for young children leave out the peppermint). I love to make a warm tea. In 1 cup hot water, add 1 Tbsp. honey, 2 drops lemon, 1 drop peppermint (if it is for young children leave out the peppermint).

For Fever: Use peppermint on bottom of the feet. You can also apply it directly to the forehead with a carrier oil.

For Cough and Congestion: Apply Breathe or Eucalyptus to chest, upper back, spine, throat and any other area that is congested. If it is in the sinus area apply there as well. You can use a hot moist towel on chest after Breathe has been applied for added benefit. Eucalyptus and Citrus oils help break up mucus. Use diffuser with Breathe. Can also add Breathe in a pot of boiling water, drape towel over head and inhale.

Headache: Apply any of the following: 2-3 drops of Peppermint, Lavender, Wintergreen, Frankincense, Deep Blue, PastTense to the temples across the forehead and right below the brain stem. Make sure not to get it too close to the eyes.

Coriander Essential Oil

Coriander is one of doTERRA's newest essential oils. They just announced it this past weekend at their 2009 Conference and Training. Coriander is the fruit or the seeds from the cilantro plant. It smells similar to cilantro, and I absolutely love it. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I am anxious to get the chance.

I was reading up on Coriander, and it can be used for many different things, some of the main things it might help with are, it is great for soothing and calming the digestive system. For Naseau rub one drop behind ears. For upset stomache, cramping, diarrhea, or other stomach issues rub 2-3 drops on lower abdomen or on the bottom of the feet.
It can also be used to help control blood sugar levels for type II diabetes. Take 2-3 drops of coriander in an empty capsule.

It also has a very calming influence when used topically. It can be used for muscular aches and pains, poor circulation, and can be used to help with healing after a difficult childbirth.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil has been refered to as "the swiss army knife" of essential oils. It has so many wonderful uses. When using oils, if you are ever in doubt, use lavender.

I make sure to have it wherever we may go, because there has been many times we have needed it.

Last year we were at a big campout with a bunch of friends, my five year old was sitting around the fire with his stick in the flames. He failed to notice the metal ring around the fire, he got to close and burned his forearm pretty bad.

One of my friends who was near at the time, grabbed him and immediately put his arm under cold running water. He was screaming at the top of his lungs. Someone hollered at me and let me know what had happened. I ran to the car, grabbed my lavender and rushed to my son. I pulled his arm out of the water and rubbed lavender over the burn. I did this a few times, and within about 1 minute he had stopped crying and started to calm down. Everyone was shocked at how quickly it took effect. Not only did it calm his emotions, but it took the pain away from the burn and it also helped it heal so he didn't have any scarring or lasting effects from the burn. My friends all commented on how their burn spray had never worked that fast or that well. I was so relieved to have had my lavender on me. It has come in handy many times.

Are you prepared for the Flu Season?

The cold and flu season is here. I already have many friends and neighbors who have been hit hard this year--and it is just beginning.

Here are few things that are so important to be doing with your family.

Apply On Guard Essential oil to the bottom of your feet morning and night. (I can even do this for my three month old baby--which is awesome.) This will help to protect us from getting sick.

Diffuse On Guard, Cassia, Cinnamon and other strong anti-viral/bacterial oils in our home. This helps to kill all the airborne pathogens that might be lingering around.

Drink water with Lemon oil. Lemon oil helps to strengthen the immune system. Plus it makes your water taste soooo good!

Of course, washing your hands is key! Making sure you and your children wash regularly is huge!

We clean our surfaces in our home (like door knobs, counters etc.) with lemon, Purify and On Guard essential oils to make sure all the viruses and bacteria are gone.

If you do start feeling the symptoms of a cold coming on--you know the feeling. Your throat starts to get a little scratchy.

Take an empty capsule (you can get these from the health food store) and put 3-4 drops of On Guard and Lemon in one. You can also add a few drops of Oregano for extra strength. Take a capsule twice a day.

This usually does the trick for us. If you can catch it in the beginning stages it usually kicks the virus before it can come on full strength.

If you start taking the capsules internally after you are full on into your sickness--it will help to cut down the duration of the virus.

For kids...just apply On Guard, Oregano, and Lemon to the bottom of the feet. (you might need to use a carrier oil--like a fractionated coconut oil for this)

Why I take the Life Long Wellness Pack

I have taken a multi vitamin supplement most of my life and it didn't really seem to make a difference. It wasn't until recently that I have found that it can make a BIG difference in how I feel each day.

Almost a year ago, we had trying to get pregnant with our third child, it just didn't seem to be happening-we had been trying for almost a year by that point.

It was during that time that the doTERRA Life Long Wellness Pack (LLWP)came out. I thought I would take them, just to see if I noticed a difference.

The first month I started taking them I started feeling more active, I had more energy, I was happier and a nicer mom, I didn't feel so tired all the time, I felt more motivated to get stuff done...basically I felt great!

The end of that first month of taking my supplements came and I found out I was pregnant. I was so suprised, I actually had to take a second pregnancy test just to "make sure."

I had never felt so good and energized, and here I was pregnant. I had never thought anything like this was possible. I had all of the opposite symptoms for pregnancy it was wonderful! I decided to play things safe so I took my LLWP to my doctor. I almost expected him to tell me not to take them. He looked at the ingredients and the amounts and he said, "hands down, by far these are the best supplements I have ever seen anyone bring in here!"

I was thrilled. I went home and I took them my entire pregnancy, it was a really nice pregnancy. Our baby was born and he is so healthy and strong. I know it is because I gave my body the nutrients it needed.

Occasionally I forget to take the supplements, it is on those days that I am a meaner mom, I feel so tired, and my motivation to get stuff done just insn't there.

Make Your Own Bath Salts

We spent this past week in Colorado and it was wonderful! We had a booth at the New West Fest in Ft. Collins and shared our doTERRA products with the great people there.

We made bath salts to sell along with the oils and other products. I thought is would be a great gift to give someone, or it is just a simple inexpensive way to pamper yourself. We figured it cost around $.50 for every cup of bath salts.

Essential Oil Bath Salts

2 Cups Baking Soda
1 Cup Sea Salt
3 Cups Epsom Salt
(All above ingredients can be found at your local grocery store)
DoTerra Essential Oils

In a large mixing bowl add all of the above ingredients with the exception of the essential oil(s). Mix with your hand or a large spoon. After all of the ingredients are well mixed begin to add essential oils until the desired scent is achieved. The best way to determine if enough oils have been added is simply by using your own judgment. Bath salts should be strongly scented so fewer salts will be required for each bath, which will enable them to last longer. (Usually 12 drops of a high quality essential oil would be enough to scent the entire recipe above.)
Bath salts are inexpensive, easy and fun to make. But, they are also fun to use. Bath salts are perfect to make for you or to give as a gift to friends and family. Breathe and Asthma

This is a picture of my three year old son. He is VERY active and VERY busy all the time. He has what I hope is just "childhood" asthma.

His doctor wanted him to be on an inhaler twice a day to help with breathing. When he was two, he would get croup at least once a month, and would always have a cough(even in the summer)...especially when he would be running around (which was all the time).

This was really hard for me, especially since if we went anywhere parents would look at me like "why did you bring your son if he is sick!"

I was so happy when we started using doTERRA's Breathe. I apply it to his chest and feet. If he is starting to get sick I also apply it to his upper back. I use the diffuser in his room at night as well.

We have only used the inhaler three times in the past year and half. It is so nice to not be putting all those steroids in my sweet little three year old. We didn't even visit the doctor once this past winter, it has been wonderful.

For the most part we kept all the colds and coughs away by using On Guard on his feet. But when they would come, I would do the treatments with Breathe as I mentioned above.

It has saved us SO MUCH MONEY by using these oils, what a blessing!

10-15 drops lemon essential oil
water
Mix well in a spray bottle, apply to windows, and wipe

Childbirth with Clary Sage and Lavender

I gave birth to my third baby a little while ago and it was a wonderful experience. The labor and delivery went wonderful. I used clary sage and lavender during labor, and after birth to relax me, help soothe the contractions. I had my baby in the hospital, and it was so wonderful to have my oils along with me. I definitely believe in the use of modern medicine, but if I can take care of something myself first...by all means I would much rather do it. Especially with something that is natural, has no side effects and is beneficial for my body.

It was so nice, in the middle of the nightwhen I was in pain because my uterus was contracting back down, I didn't have to call a nurse to give me medication. I could just rub Lavender and Clary sage on my lower abdomen and lower back. The nurses would come in and say, "oh, it smells so good in here."

It was also quite nice that I could tell my doctor I didn't need any prescriptions. I went home, enjoyed my baby and didn't have any of the negative side effects that pain medication usually give me.

One of my favorite things to do following childbirth was to take a bath each night. I would put several drops of Lavender and Clary Sage in the tub. It was just the thing I needed, it was very soothing and relaxing. It helped with the anxiety of having my third baby and dealing with two other active children all day. I know this really helped me to not get the baby blues-doTERRA has helped me in so many ways!

I am so excited!!!! We just got back from the doctors office for my boys well child checkup and I had to refill out all the paperwork at the doctors office. No, it wasn't because we got a new doctor, it was because we hadn't been there for so long. It has been over a year.

I am not against doctors by any means, in fact I am so grateful for doctors. But if I can help my family to stay healthy, and can treat illnesses and other ailments from hom first--I will.

I love the fact that anytime one of my children come to me with something wrong, whether it be a scrape, a cough, and ear infection a sore throat, warts or a burn; I can usually fix it with some of the oils. I truly feel like Dr. Mom in my own home.

A Few Common Uses of Essential Oils

Common Uses of Essential Oils

ACNE: Melaleuca (alternafolia), geranium, lavender

ALLERGIES: Lavender, Purify Blend; Respiratory Blend (Breathe); apply to sole of the foot, or put on palms of hands and cup hands and inhale; A drop or two under the nose can also help. (I would diffuse regularly to help reduce allergens in the air. I would diffuse Purify, On Guard, Breathe, or peppermint. )

ANXIETY/DEPRESSION: Serenity, Balance, ylang ylang, sandalwood, frankincense, Citrus Bliss; I would put this under my nose, on the back of my neck or on my chest, or somewhere where I could smell it throughout the day. I would also diffuse one of these oils regularly.

ASTHMA: Respiratory Blend (Breathe), wintergreen, Eucalyptus (Radiata), lemon, lavender, frankincense, marjoram; Rub on soles of feet 2-3 times daily, also rub on chest. Also, I would diffuse the oils daily to possibly reduce any airborne asthma triggers. (I would diffuse Purify, Immune Blend (On Guard), peppermint or Eucalyptus (Radiata))

HEADACHE/MIGRAINE:
MIGRAINE: Apply Peppermint and Frankincense, Wintergreen, or lavender to temples, across forehead, and on back of neck. Can also apply it under nose (for aroma)
TENSION HEADACHE: Apply peppermint or wintergreen on temples, around hairline, across the forehead, and on the back of the neck, can also apply it to soles of feet.
SINUS HEADACHE: Breathe, Eucalyptus (Radiata), peppermint; Apply across forehead and around sinus area.

INFECTIONS: Melaleuca (alternafolia) w/ lavender on cottonball and put in ear over night. I also put some around the ear area, but remember never in the ear. You can also use On Guard or thyme.

INSECT BITES/BEE STINGS: (non-toxic bug repellant) Purify blend would be my first choice, also try geranium, lavender, cinnamon, rosemary, basil, thyme, peppermint—most give short lasting protection, usually less than 2 hours, so reapply),

MOLD: Diffuse some Purify Blend or On Guard

PINK EYE: Melaleuca (alternafolia), lavender; Apply to area around the eye. Be careful not to get in the eye or too close to the eye.

PAIN: Deep Blue, wintergreen, peppermint, white fir

RSV: Rub the Breathe or eucalyptus on the chest area, and also on the spine. If needed, you can dilute. You can also mix the eucalyptus with peppermint or lemon.

RUNNY NOSE OR CONGESTION: Breathe or eucalyptus on sides of nose—eyes may water when you do this, so either close your eyes for a few minutes, or dilute with coconut oil

SCRAPES, CUTS AND BRUISES: Lavender, melaleuca alternafolia

SORE THROAT: Gargle with oregano and lemon. Put a couple drops of each in an ounce or two of water, and gargle as long as you can stand it. (I warn you this is nasty, but one time has usually been enough to take care of it for me, also you may want to have the coconut or vegetable oil handy in case any of it gets on your lips, it may burn a bit.) You can also gargle with the On Guard. Breathe, the respiratory blend, is also good for throat viruses, and you can apply this directly to the throat, for your kids who can’t do the nasty tasting things.
STREP THROAT: Put a couple of drops of the On Guard in some water and drink the water, or gargle with oregano and lemon; Oregano, frankincense, myrrh; rub on throat, chest and back of neck.

SORE MUSCLES: Apply peppermint or Serenity on affected muscles.

STOMACH/DIGESTION: Peppermint, or Digest Zen blend. Rub this on stomach area. For smaller children, you may want to dilute it with a carrier oil. Ginger is also a good one for stomach problems.
· DIARRHEA: Rub peppermint or Digest Zen on the stomach. Constipation: Rub peppermint or Digest Zen on the stomach. You can also try ginger.
· HEARTBURN: Digest Zen, peppermint, lemon, ginger, anise; Put a couple drops in a capsule; Can also add a couple drops of lemon to 8 oz of water. By ingesting lemon juice and/or essential oils, the stomach stops excreting digestive acids, therefore alleviating heartburn or other stomach ailments.
· NAUSEA: Rubbing a couple of drops of peppermint behind the ears may help.

STRESS: Lavender, orange, ylang ylang, lemon, Serenity; diffuse or apply somewhere where you can smell it throughout the day—ex. back of neck, under nose, on chest.

Essential Oil Tips

Essential oils are natural, safe, and can be used freely. However, please note a few cautions:

1. NEVER PUT ANY ESSENTIAL OIL DIRECTLY IN THE EAR OR EYE. If any oil ever does get in these areas, dilute with a fractionated coconut oil, olive, or vegetable oil.

2. If any oil is ever too strong, or causes any type of irritation, you can dilute with one of the above oils and this will immediately alleviate any discomfort. Do not dilute with water. If an oil has gotten too close to my eyes, I will just put a couple of drops of coconut or olive oil on my finger and run it across my eyelid and this helps.

3. Remember you only need a couple of drops of the oil for each application. Also, unlike traditional over the counter drugs, you can apply these more often. It is better to apply a little more often, than a lot at one time.

DoTerra Earth Essence is a new company starting up for Essential Oils. The company is founded by company founded by Dr. David Hill, David Stirling, Emily Wright & Gregory Cook. The products are amazing. They have 100% pure certified theraputic grade essential oils (CTG).
DoTerra plans on partnering with hospitals, universities, and research and medical communities around the world to discover the benefits that essential oils provide.
DoTerra will have the pre-launch of their company in April 2008, and the official launch of the company in August of 2008. DoTerra already has very strong customer and distributor prospects in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Taiwan.

For the past several years our family has spent so much money on doctor and Emergency Room visits, over the counter medicine and prescriptions. It seemed like we were constantly sick. We decided to make a change and take control of our family's health.

This winter has been very different. We have been using doTerra essential oils and have been very healthy. If we start to get sick, we use the oils and are able to get rid of the sickness quickly. It has been wonderful.
My husband has gotten pneumonia several times in the past few years. Last year he was sick for 3 weeks. The prescriptions and doctor visits were so expensive.About a month ago he began having all the symptoms for pneumonia again. We knew that this is what he had. We decided to try using the oils over the weekend to see if this would help, and if he wasn’t better by Monday we would take him to the doctor. By Monday morning he was completely back to normal. He woke up went to work and hasn’t had any problems since.
This seemed like quite the miracle to us, in the past he had always been in bed for quite a long time even while he was on antibiotics.
I have already seen them do so many amazing things. One of the most exciting things has been being able to help our children with earaches, sore throats, coughs and all the other illnesses that make little children miserable. It has also been very exciting to help our friends and family. We love doTerra and now we couldn't be without it.
